IZVOR — meaning “source” or “spring” — was founded on a simple idea: that the strength of a community lies in its people, its memory and its willingness to act together.
To empower local communities, preserve cultural heritage, promote social welfare, support youth initiatives and foster civic engagement and sustainable regional development in North Macedonia.
A region where every generation can live with dignity, take part in public life and carry its heritage forward with pride.

Our grassroots journey
- Chapter 1
Foundations
A circle of Kratovo residents — teachers, craftspeople and civic volunteers — formally established IZVOR to coordinate neighbourhood initiatives and protect local traditions.
- Chapter 2
Heritage work
Documentation of oral histories, support for traditional crafts and public events celebrating the medieval heritage of Kratovo.

Social welfare
Expansion into practical support for elderly residents, vulnerable families and people living in rural settlements.

Youth & civic life
Youth workshops, volunteer programmes and participation in public consultations on local development.

Regional partnerships
Active member of national networks on climate resilience and sustainable development, working with partners across North Macedonia.

IZVOR is governed by its General Assembly of members, which elects a Management Board and President. All officers serve on a voluntary basis. We operate in accordance with the Law on Associations and Foundations of the Republic of North Macedonia and keep our statute, minutes and financial records in line with national non-profit standards.
